How are you doing this week? How is your heart handling the daily news? I invite you to a fasting meditation I’ve been doing each week. But, more importantly, I invite you to create your own calming, grounding practice, your own space—physical or mental or both—that gives you peace and recharges your batteries. We have a long way to go.
My fasting focus for this week has not come into focus yet. There are so many things that need our informed attention, that it’s hard to keep up. Surely our bombing Iran is high on the list. The plight of the people of Gaza and Ukraine factor in near the top, as well.
But I am daily disturbed by images and reports of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency that has gone rogue. ICE is failing miserably in its stated purpose of removing violent criminals and instead rounds up the innocent, the years-long residents, those who have served in our military, and even U.S. citizens. That’s what happens when the number of detainees is the only metric, and when intimidation is the only tactic.
So it seems there is a throughline to all of these things: the leadership. My fasting focus for this week, then, is a meditation on humility over hubris, intelligence over impulse, and for good people to prevail. I will be directing this at our current government.
Join me, won’t you?

Indeed my focus this week is humility over hubris, as you so eloquently wrote. I cannot think of even one member of our current administration… from the President to his cabinet to his press that hubris doesn’t dominate …. Humility doesn’t seem to enter into their orbit … nor does accepting fact and reality….
Thank you, Ginger. Your focus today is a good reminder for me to not only pray those qualities for leaders in our government, but for myself, as well. 🌈
